Abstract – New Books Aslı Gön

New Books

Two of the new books discussed by Aslı Gön in this issue deal with women in cinema. Eylem Atakav’s adaptation of her doctoral dissertation Women and Turkish Cinema: Gender Politics, Cultural Identity and Representation focuses on the representation of women in Turkish cinema after 1980, while Serazer Pekerman’s book, Film Dilinde Mahrem: Ulusötesi Sinemada Kadın ve Mekân Temsili (Intimacy in Film Language: Representation of Women and Space in Transnational Cinema), discusses the relationship between female characters and space. The third book, Framing Film: Cinema and the Visual Arts, edited by Steven Allen and Laura Hubner, stems from an international conference at the University of Winchester. It discusses the connection between cinema and the visual arts.
