Abstract

This introduction to new books is arranged according to three subheadings. Under the heading “Oğuz Hoca İçin…” (For Teacher Oğuz) is Oğuz Onaran İçin: Sinemada Hayat Var (For Oğuz Onaran: There Is Life in Cinema) (2012). Oğuz Onaran, a scientist, has spent many years devoted to cinema, art, and music and has trained many students who now are scholars. Sinemada Hayat Var, edited by Seçil Büker and S. Ruken Öztürk, is not only a gift for Oğuz but also a collection of original articles contributing to film studies. Under the heading “Saniyede 24 Kare Ölüm Metni Üzerine Bir Okuma” (A Reading of Death 24 X A Second”), Laura Mulvey’s Saniyede 24 Kare Ölüm (Death 24 X A Second), which emphasizes new communication technologies and new ways of watching films, is analyzed comprehensively. At the outset, she describes the transformative process of cinema. Finally, under the heading “Kısa Kısa Sinema…” (Short Notes on Cinema…”) there are brief introductions to Bir Kapıdan Gireceksin: Türkiye Sineması Üzerine Denemeler (You’ll Enter From a Door: Essays on Turkish Cinema) (2012), Yeşilçam’dan Yeni Türk Sinemasına Melodramatik İmgelem (Melodramatic Imagination from Yeşilçam to New Turkish Cinema) (2012), Cahiers Du Cinéma’nın Kısa Tarihi (A Short History of Cahiers du cinéma) (2012), Üç Maymun (Three Monkeys) (2012), and Işık Gölge Oyunları (Light and Shadow Games) (2012).
