Stories from the Male Labyrinths: Ivy

Abstract

The film Sarmaşık (Ivy, Tolga Karaçelik, 2015) adopts a basic form of storytelling (oral narration to an audience) through Cenk’s performance (Nadir Sarıbacak) at the beginning of the film. Later, six men, presenting their own stories, construct a definition of masculinity through contradictions in contrast with a coherent and controlling subject.  The film tells a story through “real” and fantastic images that bring the film together as a whole.
